Pavel Datsyuk is one of the most skilled players in the game today. His creativity and all around ability in both ends of the ice might be unmatched. He puts highlight reel goals together like they were nothing and just as quick is back breaking up opposing rushes. His fellow players have taken note and a number of them have commented over the past 24 hours about the opportunity to play with Datsyuk and their thoughts about the guy.

Start off with Chara, the captain of one of the teams, who drafted Datsyuk with his first pick.

“Datsyuk is an unbelievable player and I admire the way he plays. It was my individual goal to get him first.”

Jarome Iginla had the following to say.

“He’s a humble guy, a very nice guy, but an extremely competitive player as well. He’s fun to watch, but even more enjoyable to have as a teammate.”

Oilers youngster Jordan Eberle.

“He’s a guy that I have always looked up to as a player trying to make it in this league. He is one of the best and it’s neat to just be around him. It’s just the way he plays the game. He’s just so good with his stick, defensively and offensively. He may be one of the best two-way players in the game.”

And Brian Campbell of the Florida Panthers.

“He’s a complete player. He plays in all situations. He can win a game for you and that’s what makes him great. That’s why guys want to play with him. It will be nice to be on his side tomorrow. Sure, there are a lot other guys to worry about, but it’s a positive having him on my team.”

Some pretty nice praise from fellow All-Stars. It’s always cool to see which guys the stars are excited to play with, really speaks to the kinds of player they are. Will be fun to see how Datsyuk and Team Chara perform tonight after getting handed a defeat in the skill competition last night.

This year’s All-Star skills Breakaway Challenge left a lot to be desired I thought. The creativity and really the fun, was just not there. Hell the best part was the running commentary from Carey Price in goal and some of his antics. The shooters looked tight and unfortunately without the star power that Ovechkin brings and the goofy creativity that he brought to this event, it was just not the same. Kane did the best I thought, his cape and subsequent superman slide and goal was fun, but for the most part, the rest of the creativity competition was not all that exciting. Ovechkin skipping out due to hurt feelings was unfortunate, he is good for All-Star weekend and it’s a shame he chose to bail on it. Anyway, check out Kane’s move below. He hand pass to himself was pretty good.

The NHL’s Hardest Shot competition is really just a spectacle at this point for Zdeno Chara to go out and show everyone what they can do. Sure some other guys had some big shots this year, and Weber actually eclipsed Chara’s record performance from last year, but Chara continues to be the big draw. You can see it in all the other All-Star’s faces … everyone wants to see what the Big-Z will do. How hard is he going to blast the puck? He did not disappoint tonight, with all 4 of his shots going over 106 mph. Is it the new stick technologies that keep coming out that keep pushing the speeds higher? Fan friendly radar guns? Does not really matter. Chara consistently beats the competition by a couple mph, and everyone loves it. It’s impressive … he got a standing ovation from the fans and All-Stars alike. Take a look below.
